Puerto del Carmen
Puerto del Carmen is the busiest resort on the island with a great selection of shops, bars & restaurants. The transfer time from the airport is approximately 15 minutes. It started life as a small fishing village and has now grown to be approximately 5km long. This starts from the Old Town, heading down in to the New Town, also referred to as “The Strip”, passing through Los Pocillos and ending in Matagorda, which is closer to the airport. The Old & New town are busier and hillier where as Los Pocillos and Matagorda are flatter and quieter. There is a small cove in the Old Town area called Playa Chica and the rest of the beaches are larger separated by smaller rocky areas. Sunbeds and parasols are provided for a charge and showers can be found in some areas. Most shops are duty free and you will find plenty of souvenir shops, jewellers, electrical goods and clothes shops. The Bisofera Shopping Centre can also be found in the Old Town which also boasts The RoofTop Entertainment area with crazy golf and an outside cinema.
Puerto Calero
Puerto Calero, located in the south of the island and consolidated as a quality tourist destination, has one of the most prestigious and modern marinas in Europe. It’s openness to the sea and natural beauty of the landscape create an unbeatable environment for both a holiday or a dining experience in one of the high quality restaurants. The port is surrounded by a promenade where you can fine a set of select Designer shops, exquisite restaurants to cater for all tastes and local bars. There is a small pebble beach a short walk from the Marina.
Costa Teguise
Costa Teguise is located on the north-east coast of the island and take about 20 minutes from the airport. It has been developed specifically as a tourist resort. The beaches are white and sandy and very popular with wind surfers due to the offshore winds. There are shops, bars and restaurants but no traditional areas although there is a small square where a souvenir market is held every week. Costa Teguise also boasts a Golf Course and the largest water park on the island.
Playa Blanca
Playa Blanca also originated as a fishing village. It has grown steadily over the years and now dominates the south coast of the island. The beaches are smaller than Puerto del Carmen’s but the sand is fine and white. The national park of Papagayo boasts 5 sandy coves and can be accessed for a small entrance fee. They have been voted as some of the best beaches in Europe. There are also a good selection of fish restaurants amongst many other cuisines. The ferry port has a regular ferry service to the nearby island of Fuerteventura and boat trips to the island of Los Lobos. The resort also has its own marina with a good selection of restaurants and markets are held here twice a week.
